Primark plan upgrade of Edinburgh’s Rose St
February 23 2010
Before and after images have been released documenting how a new Primark Store will impact upon Edinburgh’s Rose Street.Architects 3DReid are also working on remodeling plans for the Princes Street frontage to better connect the parallel thoroughfares.
The existing structure, described by Primark as: “an unattractive, unloved, windowless, bunker-style building”, will be replaced by a modern stepped façade that will present a proper shopfront for the first time.
A 3DReid spokesperson said: “We want to return to a vertical design, observing Princes Street’s historic ‘feu widths’ by recreating the feel of original buildings which occupied the space.
“Originally there were three properties on this site and that is reflected in our proposal.”
A public consultation is underway and the 70,000sq/ft store is scheduled to open in August 2011.
