Elder and Cannon venture into Glasgow's west end
January 29 2010
Elder & Cannon have submitted proposals for a £4m block of 49 flats on the site of the former Rally Filling Station on Great Western Road Glasgow. The brownfield site has lain undeveloped for years following the former petrol station’s demise but now Crème Developments believe they’ve hit upon a financially viable scheme for the key west end site.
Clad in natural or cast stone the seven storey build accommodates ground floor retail below three storeys of housing in line with the eaves of neighbouring tenements.
Two recessed penthouse levels push above this datum.
Adopting an L plan footprint the structure wraps around a raised landscape deck above ground floor parking and refuse collection.
Windows are spaced in continuation with the predominant tenemental bays of the area with balcony railings added to the front and screening timber louvers to the rear, although the scheme lacks E&C’s usual design finesse being a largely by the numbers solution.
