Gary Neville teams up with Make for Pennine home
January 27 2010
Manchester United Footballer Gary Neville is ditching the ostentatious “new wealth” bling of the footballers caricature to pursue a more considered approach to his new home.Teaming up with architectural practice Make in a three year collaboration Neville is hoping to score in the premier league of Britain’s homes with a petal shaped underground home in the Pennines.
From the air the home appears as a flower embedded in the landscape but when viewed obliquely it is nigh invisible, a conscious effort on the part of the client to preserve the areas natural beauty.
Each “petal” is themed in accordance with use housing ‘eat’, ‘relax’, ‘work’, ‘sleep’ and ‘play’ areas respectively.
Bolton Council are presently evaluating the plans to see if they meet the criteria of PPS7, a country house clause in planning legislation which permits greenfield construction for “exceptional” design.

Plonking a 8000sqft home on top of the moors and covering it with 1000s of tonnes of soil & grass will not make his neighbouring 'bloated mock farmhouse' look any better. Where is the 174ft wind turbine on the artists impression? Oops, they seem to have left it off!!
