Carbuncle kafuffle
January 27 2010
Carbuncle nominations are now flooding in with Inverness generating a welter of debate, both for and against.Councillor Alex Graham, Inverness Deputy Provost, mounted a spirited defence of the Highland Capital, who said: “Inverness is the destination for thousands of visitors each year, who enjoy the city's many features - the River Ness, the Castle, Ness Islands, and the Old Town among others. Culloden Battlefield and Urquhart are close at hand.”
Others were less sanguine however asking what can be done for the future rather than the past, JOE said:” What plans do the council have for redevelopment of the riverside area or marina or for that matter any area of Inverness? I would imagine little will happen without Tesco’s or Tulloch’s”.
Fortunately grand plans are in train for more appropriate manifestation of the cities new found wealth at both Inverness Campus and the upcoming Highland Housing Fair.
Glasgow heads the field in other categories with Selfridges will they won’t they prevarication leading to a Merchant City eyesore.
In the Zit Building category The Monument, Jewitt Arschavir & Wilkie Architects, was described as “skid marked” and “less, yuppie and more yucky.”

I nominate Bellshill North Lanarkshire as the so called regeneration work carried out despite the overwhelming opposition of local residents and businesses is sub-standard has left the town as no more than a giant car park with inadequate public transport provision.

The Carbuncle Award is given to towns with GREAT POTENTIAL being let down BIG TIME by the powers that be. New Cumnock is well in the running AGAIN. All the promises and what????
