West Lothian politicians lobby for A801 upgrade
January 26 2010
West Lothian politicians are to lobby Scottish Ministers for £22m of funding toward the upgrade of the A801 Avon Gorge to motorway standard.Referred to as a “missing link” in the regions roads infrastructure it would connect the M8 and M9.
At present sections along the two mile stretch of road are unsuitable to larger vehicles.
Proponents advocate that upgrade would allow the route to become a freight corridor between Grangemouth and distribution centres across the region.
Planning permission has been granted for a fly over bridge but neither West Lothian nor Falkirk Councils has the cash to proceed, necessitating the approach to ministers.
