Living Architecture launch contemporary design crusade

Living Architecture has commenced construction of five villas which they hope will raise awareness amongst homebuyers of the possibilities presented by contemporary architecture.New build housing in the UK is dominated by a handful of national developers with a highly conservative view of how a house should look.
LA are looking to tackle the resulting bland suburban sprawl which now peppers much of the land as a result by opening peoples eyes to other avenues of design expression.
They will do this by delivering domestic forms which are more exciting, personal and contextual and engaging with emerging architects.
Nord are amongst the practices to get involved in the scheme with their design for a Shingle House in Kent. Responding to a harsh climate of fierce winds the house is built from black tarred shingles typical of the area with a fusion of timber and geometry marking the interior.
Each of the homes will be made available to rent for holidays by the general public from Spring 2010.
