RMJM banks on Sir Fred Goodwin
January 18 2010
In a surprise move Sir Fred Goodwin has been appointed as a senior adviser to RMJM in support of the firms international expansion, months after Will Alsop made a similar switch. In a statement RMJM said: “We can confirm that RMJM has appointed Sir Fred Goodwin as an advisor to the business, effective immediately.
"Working closely with our Executive team, Fred will be advising on our ongoing international strategy. Fred has a huge amount of international business experience. This is a rare skill set and one which is valuable and relevant to RMJM.”
Goodwin, former head of the Royal Bank of Scotland, had become a symbol of the hubris and excess demonstrated by bankers in the bubble years that brought about a critical inability to gauge risk and brought about the near collapse of RBS.
RMJM are banking that a newly humbled Goodwin can bring his business acumen to bear on the international arena where one the world’s largest practices harbours high hopes for further expansion.
Rivals however see the appointment as a public relations disaster which may harm the firm’s ability to win UK public sector contracts.
