Property developer convicted of murder plot
January 13 2010
Imran Sakur, partner of Sara Properties, has been jailed after the High Court in Edinburgh found the property developer guilty of a murder plot. He will be sentenced on February nineSakur was convicted of arranged a hitman through one of his tenants to shoot sandwich bar owner Tony Demarco at point blank range outside the Maybury casino.
Why Sakur should have been compelled to do this remains confused but the court heard Demarco had put Sakur under pressure to pay back sums owed to him. Both the accused and victim denied this however.
Feigning to chase the fleeing gunman Sakur was caught out when investigating officers found a spent casing and trawled CCTV images, allowing them to match ammunition used and identify a getaway car and driver who subsequently named the gunman.
Mobile phone records then linked the contract killer with one of Sakur’s tenants, who flew to a villa owned by Sakur soon after the shooting.
Demarco only survived the murder attempt thanks to the low fire power of the customised starter pistol used in the attack. The bullet remains lodged in his cheek, too dangerous to remove due to its proximity to the businessman’s carotid artery and nerve system.
