NVA push ahead with Arthur's Seat Olympics illumination
January 12 2010
Angus Farquhar, a leading light in Scotland’s visual art community, has postulated ambitious plans to transform Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh into a dynamic light installation to mark the 2012 Olympic Games.Called the Speed of Light the work would fuse sporting and artistic endeavour in a festival of light by utilising a “human powered” lighting system that provides participants with colour coded equipment to create flowing patterns of light as they ascend the hill.
It will coincide with the Edinburgh International Festival which will follow on from the Olympics.
The plans would be realised through NVA, an environmental charity founded by Farquhar which specialises in technology focussed site specific artwork.
Farquhar claims he has secured enough funding to pursue the project and is seeking further support to make it happen.
