Stagecoach put Forth hovercraft plans
January 7 2010
Plans have been lodged for hovercraft terminals either side of the Forth at Portobello and Kirkcaldy as part of a bid to launch a new commuter route between Fife and Edinburgh.Stagecoach hope to start work on the terminals this year, allowing the first service to get off the ground in early 2012.
In partnership with hovercraft manufacturer the Bland Group the transport giant is reported to have raised around £14m for the venture.
However this is provisional on local authorities in both Fife and Edinburgh providing “kick start” funding, something neither authority has yet agreed to.
If Stagecoach can elevate the project above these hurdles then passengers can look forward to an 18 min crossing, running every 25 min at peak times on a service able to operate in extreme weather conditions.
It is estimated that 870,000 people would use the crossing every year, alleviating pressure on the Forth Road bridge.

I think it would be good for the local trade & be a huge impact on enviromently freindly alternative for so many cars in traffic jams on the forth bridge. also people getting to work quicker & eliminates adverse weather conditions like snow in the winter so less time is lost at work. All in all a very good idea to cut emmissions & travel problems must be the best idea for years to help the econemy polution & so quick & easy also the cost far better than fuel costs for a car
