Delay fears hit Crime Campus
January 6 2010
Labour has expressed fears that recession will lead to delays and a “watering down” of the Scottish Crime Campus.Located in Gartcosh, North Lanarkshire, the £65m facility has been designed by BMJ and gm+ad architects to house staff from the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, Serious Organised Crime Agency, Scottish police Services Authority forensic service, Crown Office, Procurator Fiscal and HM Revenue & Customs.
It is thought this centralised service will be better able to tackle organised crime through managerial efficiencies and greater cross collaboration.
Costs have escalated by £25m since the scheme was first announced in 2004 and the facility was anticipated to complete “around” early 2012 as recently as 2008.
The Scottish government now expects the first staff to move in toward the end of 2012.
Alan Dunlop of gm+ad stated: " We're working full steam ahead on the Crime Campus as before."
