For he’s a jolly good Fellow, say RIAS
December 17 2009
The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland has held their annual Fellows reception in the Clydeport Building, Glasgow. The bash was an opportunity for organisation trustees to sample at first hand a building of notable architectural merit over some free fizz and nibbles.
This served as backdrop to the evenings main event, the dolling out of honours to a select group of members amongst them James Spence Watson who was elevated to the status of Fellow.
Now retired Watson remains a convener of the Royal Town Planning Institutes West of Scotland Chapter and member of the Glasgow Urban Design Panel, amongst other duties.
Liz Lochhead, Glasgow's poet laureate, is presented with an honourary Fellowship, the highest honour that RIAS bestows upon those outwith the architectural profession
Pepping proceedings up this year was a timely Christmas compo with the RIAS inviting architects to design some DIY festive baubles.
The prize was shared by Lucy MacKenzie of George Watt & Stewart and Isabel & Clara Garriga of gm+ad and the Holmes Partnership for a “Santa Folly” and “Xmas Bubble” respectively.
Packs of these designs are available to purchase from RIAS with all proceeds going to the Architects Benevolent Society.
