Holmes win Low Moss green light
December 10 2009
HMP Low Moss is on a high after planning permission was granted for the erection of a new custodial facility.Designed by Holmes it is the first new prison to be built and operated by the Scottish Prison Service in decades and is intended to usher in a new wave of modernisation for the prison service with three further detention centres planned by the Scottish Government following.
The new jail will accommodate 700 cells when it opens in 2012, alleviating chronic overcrowding in a system creaking under increased custody rates.
Carillion are handling construction on the £116m project, in what is expected to be a speedy delivery. All site preparation has already been completed in advance of main works.
