Nightingale ward off Southern General competition
November 9 2009
Brookfield have been unveiled as the developer of Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital, the Australian developers triumph coming on the same day that London based Nightingale Associates and Tribal had won the design contract.Funded entirely by public money the health campus will centralise services from three existing hospitals to accommodate 1,100 single room beds and 20 operating theatres.
The design of the project has been modeled to reflect the importance of the site to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, by making a modern contribution to the city skyline.
A key challenge is the interconnection of the adult hospital with an adjoining Children’s ward whilst retaining the separate identities of both. Colour will play a key role in this by defining specific areas and functions with bold palettes.
Costed at £842m it is hoped the scheme will contribute to the wider regeneration of the Govan area when work commences in November 2010. The hospital is scheduled to complete in 2015.
