St Andrews University arts faculty gets planning permission
March 11 2005
Reiach and Hall’s plans for a new Arts Faculty building for the University of St Andrews have now received planning permission. Due to start on site this summer, and located within the existing historic town centre Arts campus, the new building accommodates the Department of International Relations, smaller research groups in academic offices, seminar rooms and social spaces. The new building will occupy land alongside the main University library and the Victorian townhouse of St Katharine’s West. The challenge for the new scheme is to bridge the gap between these two buildings - this is achieved by matching the heights of the existing buildings with the adjacent parts of the new building. At ground floor level, a glazed facade is set back to form a covered walkway.
