RMJM complete Singapore medical school
September 30 2009
RMJM’s Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore, a collaboration between Duke University in the USA and National University of Singapore, has been officially opened by the country’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong. The “vertical campus” houses research offices, laboratories and classrooms, the first medical facility of its kind in the city state and is intended to further Singapore’s desire to attract healthcare and biomedical research.
A central atrium ties academic spaces on the ground to research levels above whilst exterior louvers and sunshades protect interior spaces from the tropical climate, a ceramic tiled façade contains titanium dioxide which inhibits mould growth.
Three visions were adopted by RMJM in their approach, integrate with the local, physical landscape; provide state of the art modern laboratories and to do so in a sustainable building tailored to an equatorial climate.
