Eric Parry gains Wells consent
September 2 2009
Eric Parry architects have been granted planning consent from Mendip District Council for this £4.5m music facility at Wells Cathedral School.Cedars Hall will provide flexible space for rehearsal, performing and recording, including a recital hall that can accommodate up to 340 people.
Set within the landscaped grounds of Cedars House a palette of weathered steel, timber panels and full height glazing was used to respond to this rich heritage and appear as a “lantern” on the landscape.
Internally wall panels can be adjusted to accommodate differing acoustic properties and an exposed timber roof structure has been designed to further enhance acoustic performance.
This work augments a new sports pavilion, also by Eric Parry, within the school grounds.
