Glasgow awash with Mackintosh
August 14 2009
An in depth study of the architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh is to be conducted by The University of Glasgow after funding of almost £620k was secured from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.Despite reams of literature devoted to Glasgow’s starchitect his work as an architect has been under researched.
Mackintosh Architecture will conduct building surveys and archive research to generate the first detailed catalogues of Mackintosh’s work and identify construction methods, materials and technology used, confirming the history of subsequent change.
Networks of clients, tradesmen and contractors will also have their contributions defined.
Free access will be provided to the research via an online database run by the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery in May 2013.
