Glasgow City Council have nominated Sir Robert McAlpine as their preferred construction contractor to deliver 3DReid’s National Indoor Sports Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.Located in the east end of Glasgow close to the athletes village this will be Scotland’s first indoor velodrome, its 250m track designed by internationally renowned designer Ralph Schuermann.
Office provision for sportscotland and Culture and Sport Glasgow will be housed on site alongside a community centre with sports hall, outdoor five a side courts, indoor roller skates park, gym and a crèche.
The forecasted cost of the project is £116,311,000 with construction work expected to begin towards the end of 2009 with velodrome track installation expected in Spring 2012.
