Construction Training Facility under construction
August 4 2009
Work has commenced on a £12m construction training facility designed by Archial Architects for Aberdeen College.Containing workshops for joinery, brickwork, painting, decorating and plumbing the facility will complement existing technical and engineering facilities on the colleges Altens campus whilst providing a new library, fitness suite and cafeteria.
Accommodation is split between two lightweight pavilions atop a masonry plinth served by an entrance core housing communal facilities, accessible via a linear street that promotes social interaction.
Solar panels, a wind turbine, natural ventilation, modulated lighting and efficient insulation spearhead a sustainability agenda, bolstered by rainwater being redirected to toilet cisterns.
Due to open in August 2010 the centre marks the first phase of the college’s estates development strategy.
