Residents tickled pink
July 10 2009
A stay of execution has been granted to five multi storey tower blocks in Glasgow’s Sighthill estate after Glasgow Housing Association agreed to undertake a full assessment of the financial impact of retaining two blocks at Pinkston, after previously stating that demolition was “the preferred option”.Despite being earmarked for potential redevelopment under sweeping demolition plans for the northern city fringe bosses at GHA acquiesced to demands from a vociferous group of local residents, including many pensioners who had grown accustomed to the circumstance and nature of their situation.
Citing community spirit and a pleasant local environment the Pinkston Tenants Association welcomed the change in emphasis as a ”tremendous victory”.
Three blocks at Pinkston Drive remain on the demolition calendar.
