Cumbernauld art signals fresh start
A 32 foot high steel sculpture is to adorn the approaches to Cumbernauld in a bid to provide the Carbuncle capital with a sorely needed image boost.

Costed at £250k the artwork is the brainchild of Glaswegian sculptor Andy Scott and depicts a feminine form swooping round on an arc. Commissioned by the Campsies Centre Cumbernauld Ltd the sculpture will dominate the A80 north of Auchenkilns.

Speaking of his work Scott said: “I intend the sculpture to be a personification of yesteryear's modernity and a reminder that Cumbernauld was once celebrated as an ideal of modern urban development. I hope to encapsulate notions of the different aspects of the town, its past and future.”
