Vicky opens its doors
June 30 2009
Glasgow’s newest hospital, the new Victoria Infirmary, has opened its doors to patients standing opposite and in contrast to the old at Battlefield Cross in the city’s south side.Designed by HLM Architects and developed under the Governments PFI procurement process the three storey structure has been built specifically for day surgery and can treat around 400,000 patients in a year.
A range of outpatient clinics and diagnostic services will be held at the clinic including ENT, gynaecology and urology. It will also, for the first time, bring services such as chemotherapy and renal dialysis to the south side.
Designed to create an attractive and welcoming environment the airy stark white interiors are in stark contrast to the Victorian pile across the road.
Surface and underground parking is provided throughout but extensive landscaping does help to mitigate its effects and enhance the patient environment.
