Power station dedication
June 29 2009
The first large scale conventional hydro electric power station to be built in the UK for over 50 years opens today, with StudioLR there to commemorate the occasion with the publication of a book to tell the story of its creation through the words of the people involved.“Glendoe: Hydro is back” will be presented to HM The Queen and other guests at the official opening of the £160m plant, built by Scottish and Southern Energy, near Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness.
During construction the scheme was the then largest civil engineering project in Scotland and at full production will generate enough energy to power every home in a city the size of Glasgow.
A dedicated webpage has been set up to publicise the venture at http://www.glendoe.co.uk/
