Bridge gives Gloucester a lift

Sheffield based engineer Davey Markham is celebrating the opening of a new lift bridge in Gloucester, named High Orchard Bridge.The 300 tonne electro-hydraulic moveable deck rotates 69 degrees around a horizontal axis to allow shipping entry to a navigation channel.
When fully lowered the £10m the structure links an inner relief road to a new south-west bypass, providing access to the Gloucester Quays regeneration scheme.
