Canucks come up to Aberdeen
May 22 2009
James R Wright, the Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, has marked a deal with Tenants First Housing Co-operative for energy efficient Canadian timber homes in Aberdeen. Two sites in Mastrick and Kincorth have been selected for the first four homes to be built under the program which is being financed by Aberdeen City Council.
Site work started in April and the homes are scheduled for delivery from Canada in June.
The trans-continental shipment wouldn’t appear to be particularly eco friendly but Tenants First claim the Canadian “Super E” product offers much improved performance over its British rivals.
Wright said: “The Super E system is tried and tested in Canada, where our winters are much more severe than in the UK and high thermal performance is vital for new homes.
“The technology has been developed over a number of years and is successfully exported throughout the world. I hope that this business model can prove successful for Tenants First and the Scottish market.”
