3DReid crown Blythswood Hill
April 24 2009
3DReid have submitted a planning application for the renovation and extension of John Smith House, 145-165 West Regent Street, Glasgow.Unite Union, owners of the property, wish to undertake a series of works that include cleaning the limestone façade, replacing some black granite cladding, installing new glazing and (most notably) the addition of a single storey extension.
This glazed penthouse floor has been designed as a play on the horizontal and vertical glass box with a random vertical language that contrasts with the strong horizontal lines of the existing build.
By night this contrast will be further enhanced by illumination, transforming the rooftop space into a glowing lantern atop Blythswood Hill.
Costed at some £2.5m the works will expand total lettable floorspace to 3,465sq/m.
