Crowwood home in on Cardowan
April 14 2009
The former Cardowan Colliery, situated on the north-eastern outskirts of Glasgow, could witness the construction of some 270 houses if plans from Crowwood Grange Estates are brought to fruition.Straddling land controlled by Glasgow City Council and North Lanarkshire the land now comprises open grassland with scattered scrub and is designated greenbelt in part.
Much of the land is comprised of former bings and silt ponds, amongst the ruins of the former colliery buildings.
A move to residential usage follows failure to attract any interest from business users and contributes to substantial recent residential expansion in the surrounding area, notably at Gartcosh.
