Mini challenge for Transport Museum

Mini challenge for Transport Museum
Trustees of the Riverside Museum Appeal (RMA) are soliciting public donations for Glasgow’s new Transport Museum as the structure begins to take shape.

Support has already been received from many corners, including Douglas Hutchison’s gift of a 1991 Mini, used to promote RMA fundraising events.

Zaha Hadid’s Riverside Museum is gearing up for a 2011 launch with completion of the structural steel skeleton anticipated by May 2009, set to be marked by a topping out ceremony.

The event will mark commencement of cladding work which will see 24,000 silvery zinc scales envelope the façade.  A limited materials palette is designed to contribute to a monolithic appearance.

Sitting at the confluence of Clyde and Kelvin the riverfront setting acknowledges Glasgow’s maritime heritage with prominence given to the Tall Ship Glenlee.

Cutting edge architecture will house some old favourites with the return of the famous 1900-1930’s street and the introduction of a scale replica of the Bennie Railplane, intended to run internally along the roofline of the structure.
