First’s thirst for growth
April 3 2009
Transport operator First have submitted proposals from janus Architecture for a £25m headquarters and bus depot on Cathcart Road, in the south side of Glasgow. The move is intended to meet targets for passenger growth by accommodating space for 450 buses, 150 more than at present. Improved maintenance and repair facilities will allow the transport group to run a cleaner and more efficient service.
Scheduled to open in three to four years time the site will be bisected by the M74 extension and bring to productive use land which has lain derelict for 20 years.
First’s existing premises at Larkfield on Victoria Road will be demolished and may be turned into a £100m development of 640 flats by Park Lane, if the depot gets the all clear.
