Savvy Savoy on the up
March 24 2009
PBN Property plan to renovate existing retail provision within the Savoy Centre and extend upon it with a mixed use hotel/commercial tower on the corner of Renfrew and Hope St's.Built atop a splt level retail podium the 221 bed Savoy Hotel rises through the first 16 level to a dramatic double height restaurant before continuing as 6,000sq/m of office space to a further panoramic restaurant in the crown which will house a tri colour LED strip capable of displaying messages and illumination.
A sheer glass facade is broken by horizontal indents articulating floor level and a miniature spire crowns the taller of the towers. Visual interest is attained through a course of alternating glazed panels encasing stairwells in a mirror of the patinated copper podium. An obtrusive high level walkway over Renfrew Street would also be swept away under the plans.
It is hoped the plans might complete for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
