Ratho station plan panned
Edinburgh Council officials are set to block plans for Premier Property Group’s £40m Ratho Station development.

It is understood that planners are unhappy with the loss of greenbelt land and the encroachment of part of the site upon land earmarked for redevelopment of the Royal Highland Showground, set aside for an overspill car park.

PPG had hoped to double the size of Ratho Station and construct 200 new homes, a care home, community centre and extension to Hillwood Primary School.

Unusually refusal comes against a background of some support from the local community with residents keen for an influx of younger blood, improved transport links and upgraded amenity.

There is consternation locally that these benefits have been discounted for the longer term ambition of the Showground, thought unlikely to happen in the near term.
