Liverpool’s Royal flush

Alfred Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) have won a design competition to refurbish Liverpool’s Royal Court TheatreThe AHMM team beat off stiff competition from Burrell Foley Fischer, Nord, Pentagram, Studio Andrew Todd and Studio Three Architects to secure the £10 million contract for renewal of the 71-year-old building.
AHMM propose to provide an enhanced entrance space replete with digital glazed screen and greater capacity. A rooftop restaurant and bar will crown the art deco property with stylish illuminations.
Remodelled interiors will provide an enhanced environment for patrons of the Royal;s bar between performances.
Paul Monaghan, director at AHMM, explained: “The main idea was to take the best of the old building, which is a beautiful old theatre, and add contemporary elements to it so that the new complements the old.”
