Govan hits the jackpot
February 5 2009
Govan is to rake in the millions from multiple new housing projects, taking the residential investment pipeline for the burgh to a respectable £66m.This tally was achieved after numerous projects were approved yesterday, their combined presence cumulatively transforming the fortunes of the down at heel south bank community.
Govan Housing Association is leading the charge building 223 flats and houses at a total cost of £32m. The centrepiece of this program will be the Gateway Building on Govan Road, designed by Collective Architecture to act as a beacon for the area to arrivals from the east.
The proposal will comprise residential and office space housed in a dense urban block with a lower scale crescent opening out onto a new public square.
A development of flats at Golspie Street from DO Architecture will transform the setting of Elder Park with a dramatic terrace of multicoloured projecting bays.
However, it has also been confirmed that Elder Park Primary School is to be demolished.
