Gowkthrapple grapples with regeneration
January 21 2009
Planning approval has been granted by North Lanarkshire Council for a Community Hub in Gowkthrapple.Collective Architecture, working closely with Garrion People’s Co-operative (GPC), have created accommodation to respond with various activity spaces. This is achieved by splitting the building into two distinct forms, bisected by a central multi-purpose street.
A series of open days elicited a positive response from locals enamoured with the hub’s range of facility. This includes a café, shop, activity & meeting rooms in one singular build.
The hub is intended to become a landmark for the community and set a new benchmark in architectural quality.
Financing for the facility is hoped to be in place by April, provided GPC are successful in their application for lottery funding
