Starting gun fired on Aberdeen sports pavilion rebuild

Aberdeen City Council has made a play for new sports facilities in the city with the submission of plans for a replacement pavilion.

Mackie Ramsay Taylor Architects will reimagine Harlaw Pavilion, which serves associated playing fields on Harlaw Road, west of the city centre. The practice proposes the partial retention of an existing granite front wall, with openings infilled using down takings.

The current red pan tile roof will be replaced by an enlarged canopy of red standing seam sheets, with grey rain-screen cladding used for secondary elevations.Large areas of glazing will open up views of the sports field to the south.

The pavilion will house a mix of classrooms, changing rooms, stores and offices.
