Sanday Development Trust has invited architectural proposals for 12 adaptable homes and a community health hub on Orkney.

Care for Sanday is a community-led initiative to enable residents to remain on the island through locally delivered care, accessible housing and a health hub for residents of all ages.

An open invitation to tender for architectural design services has been launched to realise this vision at Lady Village, a 4-acre site owned by the Trust that hosts facilities for carers and healthcare providers.

Operations manager Kieron Brogan said: “Too often, islanders have had to leave Sanday to access care as they grow older or face health challenges.

“This project changes that — it’s about dignity, independence, and belonging, all rooted in the values of a supportive island community.”

Tenders should be submitted by 20 May for the phased build, to include covered walkways, communal gardens and energy efficiency measures.
