Edinburgh consults on coastal neighbourhood plan
February 26 2025
The City of Edinburgh Council is consulting on its plans to establish a coastal community at Seafield by regenerating a waterfront strip of land fronting a new promenade.
Up to 2,700 homes, of which 35% will be affordable, are planned for the area, all served by a centralised heat network with a GP surgery, shops and offices rounding off the accommodation mix.
The third and final round of consultations starts on 8 March and covers a draft plan for a 36-hectare site fronting a new walkway linking Portobello to Seafield waste water treatment works. This would sweep aside an amorphous mass of showrooms, industrial units and depots in favour of an urbanised strip.
Conceived by 7N Architects the report will guide future planning applications for the land. The development team includes Cundall, Max Fordham, Rankin Fraser and Nick Wright Planning.
