West Edinburgh apartment block pivots to students
February 20 2025
A slice of leftover land in west Edinburgh is earmarked for an infill student apartment block serving Napier University.
Benefitting from an existing residential consent the site at Inglis Green Gait would host a three-and-a-half-storey timber frame structure containing 17 student beds, each with a dedicated kitchen and bathroom.
In an accompanying design statement, Gordon Duffy of Studio DuB wrote: "Our client is keen to substantively retain the look and feel of the original proposals but has asked us to re-purpose the use towards student accommodation, given the proximity to the Napier University campus now with a ‘non-combustible clay panel’ cladding in lieu of the original submission.
"The proposed subjects have a right of access across the strip of land between no’s 1 & 1a Inglis Green Gait which maximises the garden ground amenity of the plot proposals."
19 of 48 trees on the site will have to be removed to accommodate the new building, with fencing to prevent machinery from damaging the root systems of the remaining trees.
