Luss go-ahead clears the way for a new distillery

Loch Lomond Group and Luss Estates have obtained coveted national park planning consent to build a distillery, restaurant and visitor centre in Luss.

Situated in the heart of the popular tourist village the development will repurpose an existing smokehouse, transforming the 5,262sq/m site into a mixed-use development including a shop and warehouse.

AJFitchet Architect has been engaged for the work, which would see an existing cottage turned into offices.

Colin Matthews, founder and CEO of Loch Lomond Group, said: “The investment comes despite the challenges facing our industry, and it reflects our confidence in the local community and the long-term resilience of Scotch whisky and distilling in Scotland. However, it comes at a time when the UK government’s ill-conceived tax hikes, broken promises of support, and unfair regulations are creating major obstacles for distilling in Scotland to remain competitive.”

In their approval notice, the park authority praised the 'high quality' development for adding to the vitality of the area.

Excellent to see this investment coming to Loch Lomond which has been lacking a whisky destination for the tourists.
Is there a link to see the plans please, as the current one takes you through to a Perth & Kinross website

this is a ridiculous development. Luss is already polluted with tourists. It’s a nightmare for residents and this just makes things worse. Luss Estates have manipulated the situation. instead of reducing traffic they are increasing it. They could have built a distillery in another part of their huge land holding away from Luss but No. Their grand plan is to acquire back the houses which they sold years ago and turn the village into their own Disneyland .

Sounds like an amazing project, shame we will have to wait in 5 hours of traffic to get there and to get home. Any plans to improve the infrastructure in the area?
