Glencairn Properties will press ahead with the second phase of student housing at its Lower Gilmore Place development in Fountainbridge, after selling the full development to Legal & General for £35m.

Having been retained to complete the project by L&G following the sale, Glencairn will now build a further 82 beds overlooking the Union Canal to designs by ADP.

Daryl Teague, managing director of Glencairn Properties, commented: “Having started the site assembly in 2017, I am proud – after a long journey – to sell our Lower Gilmore Place development to L&G. PBSA has been, and will continue to act as, a catalyst for regeneration in the Fountainbridge area, bringing life to once industrial uses.   

“Focussing on the living sectors, Glencairn has delivered an institutionally prime PBSA development, offering peaceful canal-side living a skimming stone away from the city centre.”

Phase one, constituting 69 beds, attained practical completion in 2023.

A bit of poetic licence in the illustration - there is a road and a high wall between the site and the canal. The canal bank is closed off as the quay is used for boat moorings.
