Glasgow's student housing boom is still on the rise

Student housing specialists McLaren Property have capped a process of public consultation with the submission of detailed plans for purpose-built accommodation at 285 Bath Street, Glasgow.

Manson have factored in public feedback to redevelop the existing seventies-era office block within a stone's throw of the Glasgow School of Art.

This will see a 19-storey tiered tower rise on the site, framing a small public courtyard at St Andrew's West Parish Church.

David Atherton, divisional managing director at McLaren Property, said: "The feedback we have received has been invaluable in shaping these plans to bring best-in-class student homes to Glasgow, which will help address the continued shortage of student accommodation in the city."

The plans include a ground-floor community space and a commercial unit suitable for use as a cafe or shop.

Looking back to the sketch of the previous design in the link above - it at least had acknowledgement of some kind of a plinth, a suggestion some kind of surface articulation and a hint of something happening at roof level. These have all been lost-and worse- the anemic buff-multi brick of the scheme further up Bath St is duplicated here. The scale of the street has been utterly lost there with the coarse detail, insentive modelling and lack of architecture of any kind . This continues in the same paradigm.
