New homes and shops proposed for Ravenscraig

McTaggart Construction has lodged plans with North Lanarkshire Council for 48 affordable homes and 14,500sq/ft of retail space at Ravenscraig.

The former steel works will see new homes built on Prospecthill Road as well as a neighbourhood retail hub to the south east of the site with commercial units and potential drive through development.

In recent months approval was granted for a £10m employment hub project, led by Fusion Assets with industrial space for up to ten businesses, and the construction of a 38,000 sq ft commercial vehicle workshop and sales facility.

Russell Wilkie, director at Ravenscraig Limited, said: “It’s fantastic to see the proposals from McTaggart Construction which will add to our future mixed residential offering and bring retail space to the mix too. I know that local residents are very keen to see a retail offering within Ravenscraig and we are eager to see this delivered quickly alongside McTaggart Construction”.

Thus far 1,000 homes have been built across the master plan.

I never made promises lightly, and there have been some that I've broken, but I swear in the days still left we walk in brownfields of bluff.

What about schools ,doctors surgeries, dentists, nursery
Housing to rent for families
Keep building houses but no other facilities meaning more strain on existing facilities

I remember when this site first started being developed. Malcoms put a bid in to clear the land. Half of the next company and got the job. Trust me that land is still contaminated and if you walk around the old Craig site.byiu can see the chromium in the soil.

So much for creating a high street with shops and services, but then the stuff built here is already appalling. From memory, the masterplan was pretty awful too. The usual volume builder pap. So much for Ravenscraig being a National Priority.

In all of the vague supplementary planning guidance out there, the zoned mini mall /retail park is specifically called out in 'Creating Places' as the worst kind of arrangement. There is a very low threshold, but this surely cannot pass muster with planning.
