Former hospital site to deliver affordable housing

Mast Architects have finalised plans for a significant residential development in the east end of Glasgow.

Working alongside MBLA the practice proposes to develop the site of the former Belvidere Hospital on behalf of CCG to deliver a range of 84 affordable homes for Tollcross Housing Association.

A 1.61-hectare site fronting London Road has been chosen to host the timber kit homes, which will have reduced parking (47 spaces) to encourage the use of local services and provision for home working in larger properties.

In a planning statement, Mast wrote: "Due to the issues with weathering and maintenance the housing association were reluctant to replicate the render in the immediate locality. As such we are proposing a white and buff brick to match the light palette of materials in the area in a way which will also be low maintenance and durable."

Amenity space is provided by a central courtyard and a small park positioned on the south east corner of the site.

A small playpark is planned for the corner of Belvidere Ave and Thorndyke Lane

Dull as ditchwater -- poor 60's pastiche.

Plus the age old patronising attitude of the housing associations -- cars and personal transportation are not for the likes of our tenants.

Parking will be an issue but the Transport 1400 hobby horsers will have ticked a box -- job done.
