Tram stramash
December 18 2008
Princes Street could become a no go area for traffic in the New Year to allow tram tracks to be laid. The city’s premier retail destination could be connected to the tram network by November 2009, rather than 2010 if the alternative option of keeping a westbound lane open to buses were dropped.
Works require excavations for tram tracks and ducts, placing foundations for overhead poles and reconstruction of the road.
If Edinburgh councillors approve the plans then Princes Street will be closed off entirely with diversions in place by February.
