A planning application has been submitted to Gateshead Borough Council by Red Box Design for a £13m design facility, Design Centre North.

The artistic hub is expected to drive growth in design, innovation and product development for the regional design economy by nurturing design led businesses such as graphic designers, design consultancies and architects.

Financing for the creative centre is being provided by One North East, the regional development agency for North East England, Terrace Hill and the European Regional Development Fund.

Approval for the design centre won’t be granted until next spring at the earliest.
