Tenants settle into curvaceous Argyle Street homes

Tenants have begun settling into a high-profile apartment block in Finnieston, completing the nearly four-year build.

The JR Group with Coltart Earley Architects have delivered 55 affordable flats at Dover Street on behalf of Glasgow West Housing Association (GWHA), including a ground floor commercial unit.

Gary McGregor, managing director at The JR Group, said: “We’re pleased to see the completion of this milestone project and residents enjoying their new homes.

“We worked closely with GWHA, Coltart Earley Architects and AECOM Engineers to bring the apartments to life."

Originally programmed to be completed by spring 2023 the delayed block is faced with high-quality natural polished ashlar sandstone to Argyle Street, a condition of planning.

First tabled in 2017 the 'complex and challenging' build was held up by the presence of high levels of lead contamination, necessitating a remediation strategy.

Interesting to see the build economics behind this development -- not looking good regarding all the different "actors" involved in the build.

It has a credit reel that would shame Hollywood.

'B' is for bland and 'M' is for mediocre.

UR, article says Glasgow West Housing Association and West of Scotland Housing Association - was under the impression this was a development for Glasgow West, which is it, or did something change midway during the project?

@JD - It is indeed Glasgow West Housing Association (GWHA). The team has remained consistent throughout but some design changes were made to cover the expense of extending the sandstone cladding across the entirety of the Argyle Street frontage. Namely removal of a 5th floor roof terrace and lower ground floor.

Apologies for the confusion.

Big opportunity missed to have a nice terrace on the top floor
