Riverside Park to turn disused Glasgow dockland green

Disused dockland in the heart of Glasgow could become home to a waterside park and events space under new plans by New City Vision.

The developer is working with the Central Govan Action Plan (CGAP) to transfer brownfield land at Govan Graving Docks into community ownership, after transforming the land into publicly accessible green space.

Hosting pop-up markets and community events the flexible outdoor space would serve as a backdrop to a separate application for 304 homes as well as the reopened Dry Dock No1, where restoration has begun on the TS Queen Mary.

Harry O’Donnell, chairman of New City Vision commented: “The plans to create a new riverside destination, via a new publicly owned open space, have been designed to bring activity, vibrancy and vitality back to this derelict site.

“The new open space will not only promote physical and mental wellbeing but, through the creation of flexible areas for pop-up markets and community events, will establish a dynamic hub that encourages creativity, fosters community spirit, and provides a space for cultural and social activities.”

Detailed plans by RankinFraser focus on re-establishing Highland Lane as an important route to the river, opening up access to 9,000sq/m of parkland and levelling the ground by removing spoil heaps. Other interventions include an open space in front of the retained Pump House and a tree-lined market square. A coloured concrete path will also be laid around the site perimeter to open up broader river views.

it's all part of the propaganda to get New City Vision's controversial flats scheme through.

More madness -- an industrial site being used for a farmers market.

The flats idea is double mental -- tiny site overdeveloped facing onto some sort of street theatre manufacturing tourist trap.

If only they had put the same energy into filing their accounts as they put into their PR ...

Dog with a bone -- just not sure why?
