Replacement Milton homes emphasise parks and gardens
October 30 2024
Open ground at Vallay Street, Milton has been earmarked for a new build affordable housing development of 72 houses and cottage flats for social rent.
Previously home to post-war tenements the Wheatley Group and Mast Architects propose a sequence of two-storey brick dwellings set back from the street edge.
Second round consultation documents show how the development would work in concert with a new community hub on Shapinsay Street (currently out to tender), to include an east-west link path. Two small areas of woodland are proposed for the south of the site around former mine shafts.
In a consultation statement, Mast wrote: "Due to the existing topography on site – sloping towards the existing roads, the blocks are set back from the road line. As a result, in-curtilage parking is provided to the rear of all terraced blocks, with communal parking provided for the cottage flats."
Consideration has been given for further new build housing at a neighbouring site on Stornoway Street.

Might want to mix up the tenure bit to get a more integrated community -- Rightmove would appear to be a foreign concept in that part of the city.
Not good.
