Selkirk social housing to stem out-migration
October 28 2024
Smith Scott Mullan Associates have requested planning permission to build 26 homes for social rent on open ground west of Selkirk as part of efforts to improve the availability of affordable housing.
A mix of affordable flats and houses is proposed for Linglie Road, which will have net zero carbon in operation and employ solar panels and air source heat pumps for energy.
Spread across nine pitched roof blocks the accommodation is accessed via a new internal street of terraces and semi-detached properties scaled to match existing housing in the area.
Detailing the material finishes the practice wrote: "External walls are to be finished in a light stone coloured brick, to tie in with traditional stone buildings in Selkirk, with a light coloured render to match. This also reflects the materials of nearby buildings which are a mix of brick and render."
Located close to Ettrick Water the development sits 10m behind a flood defence embankment, placing it beyond an area prone to flooding.
